Founded in 1985 in Pennsylvania, FGR Automation began with a clear mission: to bring state-of-the-art PLC-based control systems to the coal preparation and bulk-material handling industries. Leveraging robust American PLC platforms (Modicon and Allen-Bradley) combined with innovative data-driven programming techniques pioneered in the UK, we quickly became a trusted partner, delivering over 30 complete plant-wide automation systems for coal processing, material handling, and high-speed product loading.
In the 1990s, PPG Industries selected FGR to play a key role in their global “Blueprint for the Decade” modernization initiative. This landmark program took our teams across the United States, to Guangdong Float Glass in China, and throughout France, designing and installing highly customized, high-performance control systems for flat-glass production and fabrication lines. These projects pushed the boundaries of the era—integrating industrial robots, precision servo motion, advanced vision inspection, and multi-level hierarchical data systems for production and quality control.
Over nearly four decades, FGR has continually evolved, expanding into diverse and demanding sectors including steel, cement, power generation, refineries, pharmaceuticals, consumer packaging, recycling, and high-rise building automation. Notable recent projects include the iconic Porsche Design Tower in Miami, NASA-related control systems, and sophisticated vision-based quality inspection lines for Brazilian automotive component manufacturing.
In 2016, we restructured as an LLC, welcoming new leadership passionate about emerging technologies and positioned to carry FGR’s legacy of engineering excellence into the age of Industry 4.0, IIoT, and advanced automation—while never losing sight of the reliability, practicality, and client-focused principles that have defined us since day one.
